- No reader told us. Our daily look at the live site found the sample report for central Manchester, the one the homepage links to, saying 6 crimes had been recorded within about a mile in July 2026.
- What we found
- Greater Manchester Police is publishing only a small part of its recorded crime to Police.uk. On 18 September 2026 Police.uk listed 5 offences within a mile of central Manchester for July, all violence or public order, and 0 to 2 at Salford, Stockport, Wigan, Bolton, Oldham and Trafford, while every other force we read listed hundreds or thousands: 493 in Headingley, Leeds, and 1,892 in central Birmingham. The fix of 27 August caught a month with nothing in it, not a month with almost nothing, so a trickle was shown as a count. Scottish addresses had the same fault in a smaller way, because Police.uk holds only British Transport Police records for Scotland.
- What changed
- Across the ten Greater Manchester boroughs and in Scotland, no crime count is shown on reports, comparisons, area guides or the PDF, and the browser extension shows no figure. Crime plays no part in the score there. Each says in words why. The count comes back when Greater Manchester Police publishes in full again, which our source checker looks for on every run.

Reported to us directly rather than through the form on a card, or found by our own checks. What was wrong, why, and what changed.

- A reader knew of a fire and a bike theft on their street, but the card showed no crimes at all.
- What we found
- Greater Manchester Police had published nothing to Police.uk for May or June 2026 while other forces were current. We were reading only the latest month, finding it empty, and rendering that as zero.
- What changed
- The card now walks back up to six months to find the most recent month the force actually published, and where a force has published nothing at all it says so in words instead of showing a figure. A publication gap can never again be displayed as a crime-free area.
- Reported
- A property known to sit under a flight path showed no aircraft noise, while a quieter one nearby did.
- What we found
- The figure was correct but the absence was misleading. DEFRA's noise maps only model levels above a minimum threshold near major roads, railways and the largest airports, so an address outside those contours has no reading at all, which is not the same as silence.
- What changed
- Both the report and the PDF now explain that a source not listed is outside DEFRA's mapped area rather than a zero reading.
