- A reader knew of a fire and a bike theft on their street, but the card showed no crimes at all.
- What we found
- Greater Manchester Police had published nothing to Police.uk for May or June 2026 while other forces were current. We were reading only the latest month, finding it empty, and rendering that as zero.
- What changed
- The card now walks back up to six months to find the most recent month the force actually published, and where a force has published nothing at all it says so in words instead of showing a figure. A publication gap can never again be displayed as a crime-free area.

Reported to us directly rather than through the form on a card. What was wrong, why, and what changed.

- A property known to sit under a flight path showed no aircraft noise, while a quieter one nearby did.
- What we found
- The figure was correct but the absence was misleading. DEFRA's noise maps only model levels above a minimum threshold near major roads, railways and the largest airports, so an address outside those contours has no reading at all, which is not the same as silence.
- What changed
- Both the report and the PDF now explain that a source not listed is outside DEFRA's mapped area rather than a zero reading.
